Fence and Gate Work in Paradise, CA
Fences and gates for a town that's building again.
Since the Camp Fire in 2018, Paradise has been rebuilding one lot at a time. New homes are going up across the Ridge, and nearly every one of them needs a fence or a gate to feel like home. That's different work than repairing an old fence. Many lots have been cleared down to bare ground, survey markers may be the only sign of where one property ends and the next begins, and neighbors are often building at different times. The terrain adds its own challenges. Paradise sits on a ridge between two deep canyons, so a lot of yards slope, and the ground can be rocky in places. Deer move freely through town, so gardens and young trees need real protection. And every choice now gets weighed against fire safety, including what the fence is made of and how it meets the house.
We build new wood fences, vinyl and chain link fences, and gates of every size for homes going up in Paradise. Call or send the form, and we'll come walk the lot with you and give you a written price.
Building Fire-Smart Fences
In Paradise, fire-safe fencing isn't just good advice. It's in the town's code. Paradise Municipal Code 8.58.060 doesn't allow combustible fencing within five feet of any structure, so the section of fence that meets your house has to be made of something that won't burn, like metal. The same rules don't allow two fences running back to back less than three feet apart, which can come up when neighbors build at different times. A common setup is a metal panel or metal gate where the fence meets the house, with wood or vinyl farther out. We also keep fences from trapping dry leaves and pine needles against the boards, and we leave room to clear brush along the line. Rules can change, so we check the current requirements for your address before we build.
Slopes, Deer and Rebuilt Lots
On a sloped lot, a fence has two choices: step down the hill in level sections, or rack to follow the grade. We'll show you both and pick what fits the yard and the look you want. Rocky spots sometimes need a little more work to get posts deep enough, but it's worth it, because shallow posts are the first to fail. For gardens, orchards and young landscaping, a taller deer fence keeps browsing deer out. And since many neighbors are rebuilding too, we often help coordinate a shared fence line so it's built once and built right. Just up the road in Magalia, we do much of the same work, and down the hill in Chico we're working most days of the week.
Fences for New Construction
A new house on the Ridge often comes with a bare lot, a survey and not much else. The fence is usually one of the last things built, and that's when timing matters. We like to set the line after final grading, so posts aren't buried or left hanging when the landscaping goes in. If the survey stakes are gone, we'll recommend having the corners marked again before we dig, since a fence a foot over the line causes trouble for years. We also coordinate with your builder on where the fence meets the house, so the noncombustible section, the gate and any side-yard access for utilities all line up. If you're moving in before the yard is done, a partial run can keep the dog in until the full fence goes up.
